Photos: ‘Hermine’ has had many faces, and the Hurricane Hunters photographed them all

NOAA’s Hurricane Hunter planes are flying research labs, and the men and women that bravely fly them collect data integral to hurricane forecasts. Sometimes they collect pretty awesome hurricane photos, too.

Over the past three weeks, the storm named Hermine has had many faces. What started as just a lowly area of thunderstorms in the Atlantic eventually became the first hurricane to make landfall in Florida in over a decade. The Hurricane Hunters were there to document all of its phases, giving us an up-close view of its evolution.
