Hydroclimatic flood trends in the northeastern United States and linkages with large-scale atmospheric circulation patterns
- Evaluates flood magnitude and frequency trends using gauges in the Mid-Atlantic US and finds significant increases
- Finds that 53 of 75 study gauges show upward trends in annual flood magnitude, with 12 showing increases at p <0.05: in other words, 75% of gauges show upward trends and 27% show increases at p <0.05
- Results suggest hydroclimatic changes in the context of a combination of factors, including cyclical atmospheric variability and climate change
