Typhoon Soudelor is taking dead aim at Taiwan and is expected to make landfall Friday, according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center. With sustained winds of 100 mph, it's now equivalent to a Category 2 hurricane.
The storm is expected to restrengthen to Category 3 strength, with 120 mph winds, prior to making landfall along the east coast of Taiwan on Friday night with winds of at least 110 mph, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center predicted.
Heavy rain of up to 20 inches and howling wind gusts are the main threats from the storm, AccuWeather said.
