Typhoon Haima causes losses worth over USD 700 mn in China

Typhoon Haima has caused estimated direct economic losses worth over USD 702 million in China's three provinces, authorities have said. 

About 114,000 residents had been relocated, 239,500 hectares of crops and 3,200 houses damaged, and another 600 houses destroyed by the typhoon, state-run Xinhua quoted an official statement of the Ministry of Civil Affairs as saying.

Typhoon Haima, the 22nd typhoon of the year, caused estimated direct economic losses of 4.76 billion yuan (USD 702.65 million) in Jiangsu, Fujian and Guangdong provinces, the ministry said yesterday. 

Typhoon Haima made landfall in the southern province of Guangdong on October 21. 

In Guangdong, the worst-hit province, Haima has displaced 95,000 people, and 62,000 people are in urgent need of basic living supplies, it added.
