Record Warmth in the Midwest, South and East From a Strong Dose of Indian Summer; Fall Weather Returns Later This Week

Over two dozen record highs were tied or broken on Tuesday across the Eastern U.S. One of the most impressive record-breakers was Jackson, Kentucky, reaching 87 degrees Tuesday afternoon and smashing the previous record of 81 degrees.
Baltimore set a new record high Tuesday with a high of 84 degrees, breaking the old record of 82 degrees. Dulles Airport in Washington D.C. also broke a record high on Tuesday by reaching 85 degrees, exceeding the prior record of 82 degrees.
A new record high was also set in Hartford, Connecticut, on Tuesday when the mercury climbed to 84 degrees. The previous record was 80 degrees.
